In keeping with its' commitment to Community Policing, The Somerset Police Department, in cooperation with the Somerset School Department, continues its Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) youth activity program for Somerset residents. The free 16 week program is being held Saturday mornings 9AM until 12PM commencing November 19, 2011 and is open boys and girls in grades 4 through 8.

PAL is a youth crime prevention program that utilizes educational, athletic and recreational activities to create trust and understanding between police officers and youth. It is based on the conviction that young people -if reached early enough -can develop strong positive attitudes towards police officers during their lives journey toward the goal of maturity and good citizenship.

The PAL program brings youth under the supervision and positive influence of law enforcement officers while expanding public awareness about the role of a police officer, and reinforcing the responsible values and attitudes instilled in young people by their parents.

The P.A.L. program is being held at the Somerset Middle School gymnasium and will include activities such as floor hockey, indoor soccer, wiffle ball, basketball and kickball.

Students wishing to enroll in the next P.A.L. program should complete the attached application and return it, along with the signed waiver to Sgt. Matthew Reis at the Somerset Police Station or bring it to the first day of registration, at a date to be announced, at the Somerset Middle School.
